Lake House Weekend

Two weekends ago we had a great time at the lake. Some friends from church invited our class to spend the weekend at their parent's lake house. There were 8 families that went, so it was a wild and crazy time, but everyone had a blast! There were lots of activities for everyone, including swimming, jet skiing, kayaking, skiing/tubing with the boat, Bocce ball, and plenty of food! Here are some pictures of our various activities:

Carter loved swimming off the dock. He staying in the water pretty much all day, taking a break only for mealtime and naptime.


My personal favorite was the jet skis, so much fun!! Even Carter went for a ride...I asked him if he liked it and he said "Yea, but Daddy drives a little crazy" ...so true...


This was Ryan's favorite activity - the kayak. He enjoyed quite a bit of time to himself just cruising around the lake, it was very relaxing for him. Of course, Carter got to join him for a ride...

A weekend at the lake wouldn't be complete without a campfire and S'mores...even if it was 80 degrees outside. The chocolate was nice & soft before even adding the roasted marshmallow, so you can just imagine the melted chocolate mess! (or just see the picture below...)

Costume Party

Carter was invited to a friend's birthday party a few weeks ago and the invitation said "come dressed in your favorite costume." It was a girl's birthday party, and the majority of guests were little girls, so by all accounts it was technically a "princess party." But I greatly appreciate that the host showed respect for the dignity of the 4 boys in attendance and called it a "costume party.":)

There was no question about what Carter wanted to wear for his costume, but Ryan decided to take it to the next level...

(this was Carter's first experience playing musical chairs, I was impressed by how quickly he picked it up!)

The End of an Era

I realized that I would be remiss in not documenting this...

Friday, June 5th marked the end of an era. After a year and a half of fun, the adventures of Carter & Trevor are officially over. While they will still have the occasional play date together, Trevor will no longer be coming over on a daily basis. It's been a roller coaster experience, with plenty of ups and downs, but overall I'm grateful for the experience. Initially, the arrangement of babysitting Trevor is what allowed me to quit my teaching job and stay home with Carter. I have absolutely no regrets about that decision. There were days that I wanted to pull my hair out or shut myself in my bedroom to get away from the quarreling toddlers, but we also had some fantastic days and the boys really enjoyed playing together.

Carter still talks about things we're going to do "when Trevor comes over", but he is slowly coming to understand that this is different from Christmas Break or Spring Break, were we had our alone time, but Trevor always returned. I know Carter will miss playing with Trevor, but I'm looking forward to the time he & I will have together now.

Here's a look back at their time together:

January 2008 - It's hard to believe Carter wasn't even 2 years old yet when we started keeping Trevor.


February 2008 - This little nap in the car led to the only official day that neither one of the napped at home:).


March 2008 - Fun in the snow


May 2008 - The Wiggly Play Center in Frisco became a favorite place for running out their energy.


July 2008 - I can't remember why they're only wearing diapers...I'm sure there was a good reason for it at the time.


October 2008 - Carter joined in on Trevor's love of hockey, so I'm hoping that will wear off now...


March 2009 - Occasionally I had moments of bravery and let them venture into the world of play-doh.


April 2009 - This was their 2nd trip to the Dallas Zoo together, they loved it!


June 2009 - Trevor grew to love Granny like she was his own...so we had to make one last trip to Granny's pool for Trevor's last week.


As with anything in life, this arrangement was great for a season, and now we're ready to start another journey!
